Altered Materials is a deeptech startup developing biodegradable, microplastic-free and plant-responsive encapsulation technology for biostimulants and biopesticides. Its plant-responsive capsules protect natural active ingredients from premature degradation, run-off and leaching, releasing them at the right time and place in response to specific natural plant chemical signals. The technology is designed to help biostimulant and biopesticide producers improve formulation performance, reduce input application and enhance efficacy, while supporting the transition towards more efficient, sustainable and regulation-ready agriculture.
Co-founded by Marco Illich, Carlo Amata, Morena Rolando and Silvia F. Garofalo, Altered Materials combines expertise in microfluidics, green chemistry, agronomy and formulation science. With one IP filing and a second in progress, the company is building the next generation of intelligent delivery systems for biological and natural-based agricultural products.
